Today
was a great day weather wise. No rain. Went to see the Corn Palace
today. Our luck, this year they are doing a renovation of The Palace.
It is still open, but it is not as Walt & I remembered it. You
can Google it and see what it used to look like and what it will look like when
it is finished. Everyone forgot their camera's today, so after we had
dinner we went back to take pictures. Thank you Bob, for going back for us to take the pictures. They
are taking the spheres down and are going to be putting up new ones. I
think the new ones will be nice, but we did not see them, only pictures.
I have put a picture below of the old one, sitting on the street in front
of the building. The other pictures are of the murals that are done on
the outside with ears of corn. All the material in the pictures are made
of different colors of corn. The frames around them are rye grass and
some other plant. Don't remember but I read somewhere. They are
redone every year and will be replaced shortly with the new ones as the corn is
ready. I have included pictures of the pattern for the 2 new ones that
they have up so far. So the pictures below are of the old and the soon to be
new one.

Tomorrow
we leave for the Badlands and will be there for 4 nights and 3 full days.
Will post pictures from there as we can. Oh yes, was talking to someone at The Palace tonight when we were taking pictures and they had just
been out in Yellowstone and stopped in Deadwood SD on the way back, not
realizing that the Sturgis motorcycle rally was on and they tried to get a
hotel room. They could have had one if they wanted to pay $709.00, yes
that is the right figure, to stay one night in a hotel room. Sure glad
our plans for this area are for after the rally should be over. I sure wouldn't want to be anywhere near this place next year, it will be the 75th Anniversary of The Sturgis Rally.
